As a mother of two boys, you're scaring me! Wow--I've never heard this data point about boys' relationships (or lack thereof) with their mothers affect their sexual behavior. Freud tried to tell us! What responsibility to our sons this places on us mothers. Yikes.

There is no pass/fail here, only learning, only expanding our horizons and our ability to understand the viewpoints of those who disagree with our own. It's tough. Even for adults!

Okay, uno: I couldn't FIND any other reliable sources to back this claim.

Dos: So... um... does that mean I fail? It just made me feel so false to back the other side. Especially when I don't see their point.

ok--so you give me some points Rector (we won't talk of the irony of that name considering your topic:]) makes in favor of abstinence-only ed. But, you haven't made an argument contrary to your last position. You've only shared a few points he makes.

This exercise aims to have you craft an argument that asserts a position opposite (or at least different) from the one you last took. Remember: you're to use evidence from two different sources to back your claim.

...what? I'm not quite following you. Using your driver's ed example: Just because you take a driver's ed course doesn't mean you aren't going to have an accident. Using this analogy, teaching abstinence only sex is like teaching driver's ed without including information like how to wear a seat belt or what do do if you do get into an accident. But I'm not sure how effective this analogy is.

...but then the teen simply didn't follow the rules taught in the driver's ed course, so we have to change the curriculum to account for the teens who won't heed the lessons taught. Right?

Hmmm...are there any other factors that could account for the rise in teen births in the CBS report? Just wondering--was the abstinence-only education the single factor to the rise?

Does teens admitting to have sex equate a failure in abstinence-only education? Might that be like a teen who's taken driver's ed having a car wreck and saying the driver's ed course is a complete failure?
